'I Buried Her Today'

This poem is dedicated to the memory of a two
year old girl caught up in a war she did not comprehend
...but killed her.

Her head lay on a whited pillow
all motionless and cold
Her eyes all closed..not moving
my baby will ne'er grow old

Her sweet lips are strangely silent
no sounds from them do roam
To fill my house with laughter
and make my house a home

No baby crying 'daddy!'
cuz she skinned her little knee
Or arising Christmas morning
to look under the tree

No little arms a flailing
as she romps with her big dog
Who lays there strangely silent now
almost as if a lifeless log

It would have been a few more days
she would have been here in the states
But her country that she lived in
is at war and full of hate

So they killed two year old Katy
shot her four times through her chest
Now her soul is with our God above
and I'm tearfully burying the rest

For You, Katy
