The Bridle and the Bit

I really fought the bridle and bit
I wanted not one part of it
Love was not for the likes of me
Who wander aimlessly...lost at sea

How could I ever try to love again
Risk it all...feel my heart rend?
This "thing" that they call love
Is it strictly ethereal
As is a heavenly dove?

Or is it tangible like a prime-rib steak
Sizzling on a barbecue
Nestled by a lake?
Is there truly something there for me
A weariful life floundering at sea?

I pondered these questions for nigh twenty years
Trapped by indecision...mired in fear
But your sweet love turned my world about
Made me reach for the stars and want to shout

And proclaim to all of this crazy world
How it feels to be loved by a beautiful girl
A woman who truly knows how to love a man
Makes me feel special in every way that she can

Knows how to rescue my drowning soul
Makes me feel alive and so very whole
So now all I have to say about it
"Is" make ready my bridle and my bit
