The telephone rang
and my machine said 'hello'
Your sweet voice was saying
'I love you so!'

My heart quickly jumped
at the sounds of your tones
as my clumsy hands furiously
lunged for the phone

I thought, Beautiful Baby
I'd lost you for good
I hadn't seen or heard from you
And I knew that I should

You seemed to be fleeing
from my love and my care
and i wanted so badly
for you to be there

But I just couldn't hurt you
or force you to stay
I resigned myself to thinking
you were going away

I shed many tears
as I thought of your love
And what it meant
'neath the stars above

And just when I thought
that there wasn't a chance
Your sweet voice was bringing
me love and romance
