We protect our street-turf at all costs!
It's all we have that's ours!
Cuz none of us have anything else;
We don't live in ivory towers.
I live in the public housing projects,
A place known as Cabrini Green;
Where healthy living isn't a norm,
And life gets pretty lean.
I carry a switchblade knife; a straight razor too,
And I learned to use them well.
At about the age of eight or nine,
I got my first Mac-10 and shells.
It's a hard life, but it's all I know.
And my future looks pretty grim;
Life in prison; maybe the chair;
Lethal injection; my eyes growing dim.
What do I really want from life?
Heck! Who really knows!
I'm too busy trying to live
A life that's one big zero!
Dedicated to the folks of Cabrini Green:
I'll never forget my extended family.
